Blog on Medium, get paid by the amount of Medium paid subscribers read your post and how much of it they read… Where is the loss? This allowed for a small timer like me to dip her toes in blogging and allowed me to earn 5 cents here 9 cents there only for the quantity of content that anyone — subscribed to Medium — who stumbled by it would consume. Of course if I was some famous person that decided to blog after my 10 or 20 years in politics I would have hundreds or thousands of subscribers immediately and people would be impatiently waiting to read my thoughts and prose. Not this lady…
So where is the loss? I only get paid if a person who is subscribed to Medium reads my content. If people who are not subscribed read my content I don’t get paid — yet Medium still gets traffic. More importantly I’m in my feelings because I lost being part of the Partner Program and my post that was getting reads will no longer be giving me those 3 cents here and 5 cents there, even though members will still be reading it.
Oh but Qc maybe you should create content that people want to read? Absolutely, who sits here and spends time writing something for only themselves to read — I journal for that. The motivation to create blogging or review content on THIS platform was that… the chance that one of my posts would make me some kind of revenue.
So I will make my minimally successful post private. Why? Because I use to earn for it and now I don’t and it makes me feel like someone else is earning for my minimally successful post and not me — the writer. I will create more posts that will hopefully eventually make me eligible for the Partner Program again… But it will be post Partner Program content that will be available.
